Kon discovered music making at the age of 13. He started using music software out of curiosity. Fascination and a drive towards composition led to the creation of his first pieces, that were solely based on intuition. After starting a duo by the name of Digital Echoes, at the age of 16, one of the band’s tracks gets released on a dance compilation. This was 2003.
After Kon was accepted in university for maritime studies, in 2004, he decides to give everything up and to devote himself to music by taking up violin, piano and music theory lessons at the same time. After a few months, his teachers urge him to focus more on the field of composition. Subsequently, he started investing more and more time in theory since he realised that it can be combined with math to achieve a greater understanding of how music composition works. In four years he becomes the proud holder of two degrees, one in Special Harmony and one in Counterpoint. This is when he makes his first solo live appearances as a composer and performer choosing piano, samplers and synths as his instruments.
Meanwhile, although his interest in classical music composition remains unaltered he is ultimately absorbed by electronic music and its various styles, resulting in the creation of a trip-hop band called 'Ekos Quartet' in 2006. By 2007, Ekos has oddly become a five-piece quartet wherein Kon composes and produces the music while a female singer and an MC write the lyrics and perform. His composing and music production skills are evident in the band’s first and only LP "In a Dream Full of Charm" which was released in Greece and Europe to critical acclaim in 2010.
After taking the LP on stage and touring in Greece, the band members decide to part their ways in mid 2010 and Kon delves further into music exploration by composing music for his first documentaries and short films. He is instantly fascinated by the potential of film scoring and invests time to learn the craft by working on more short films.
Regardless of how exciting scoring was for Kon, splitting the band left a gap that could only be filled by another music project. So he thought the best thing to do was to take his music equipment and go to the Greek countryside to focus on his music making. After a period of six months he has finished yet another album which under a new alias is self-released online.
In 2011, unable to continue his music career in Greece, he moves to London where he instantly familiarises himself with the performing arts/live art world and is impressed by the level of experimentation that is taking place. He, also, comes to the realisation that these shows still need music scoring but in a wider sense and grasps the notion of sound design and how sounds (and not necessarily music) can be utilised to score a show. He then takes part in a performance group, Zero Tau, with a singer/performer and another fellow musician wherein he explores these exact thoughts. He composes sound and music all of which is devised alongside the singer/performer so that her artistic vision is preserved and sonically enhanced. Live performances followed at SPILL National Platform in Ipswich and Trouble Festival Brussels with very satisfying results.
In 2014, Kon joins A2 Company, a theatre/performance team, as the sound artist. The work involved is challenging since Kon produces the initial score and then refines it during a 2-month period of rehearsals. However, the collaboration proves to be very successful as they do five shows at The Yard Theatre, Hackney Wick during March 2014, perform two shows at Tripspace Projects, Haggerston in November 2014 and they are commissioned by L’Associazione Dello Scompiglio for an eleven day residency to devise a new work in response to the Tuscan surroundings which is to be performed on location, in Lucca, Italy.
Needless to say, his coming to London exposed Kon to all sorts of possibilities and stimuli, broadening his horizons artistically. But there is one in particular that fascinated him, underground techno music. Dark, trippy, industrial rhythmic patterns made sense since this felt like trip-hop only twice as fast (well..almost). On that basis, during 2014, Thaddeus was born and carries Kon’s moody, ambient and dance music. Through this alias he is Djing at club nights as well as producing using analog synth gear, cassette recorders and sequencers.
A big turn in 2015 sees Kon working for a tech startup. Initially, he is commissioned to write music and soon his experience in music technology and sophisticated approach to music making is recognised and is offered a music consultant position. Being able to understand both worlds he mediates between the software developers and the musicians and makes sure both teams get what they want. The goal is to make music sound great at any speed and thusly creating elastic and interactive music which can then be used as the backbone technology for running apps and more.
